The Basics of the Scuba Diving Tank

An important part of the scuba diving gear is the scuba diving tank. It is pretty simple to use, but very helpful ones you are under water. Never the less you will have to consider some points while and when using it.

This tank which comes with the scuba diving gear holds around one fifth parts of oxygen and the rest is nitrogen. The composition is very similar to the air we breathe when we are not in the water. There is a reason for not using pure oxygen. If we use only oxygen it becomes toxic for the body and more so, when one is in shallow water. This air in the scuba diving tank is compressed and just ideal to use during diving.

The metal used to make the tank is aluminum and it contains around eight cubic feet of air which is compressed. The height of the tank is about 24 inches and the diameter is of six inches. The dimensions and features are specified by the United States Department of Transportation and are made as per their standard. These tanks are required to be approved by the government agency.

The pressure of the gas has to be monitored and maintained as per the prerequisite....that is the pressure should be between two thousand and three thousand psi .One needs t check out some other considerations before using the tank as a part of your scuba diving gear. Make sure you get the gas required, filled at a scuba diving store which is registered and experienced. They should be aware of the specifications like the compressed air and the gas pressure which is to be maintained in the tank. It is very important to have the right equipment for filling the tank and it should be done in the right and safe conditions.

It is also necessary to follow safety measures when you are traveling with the scuba diving gear including the tank. The tank should never left outside in the sun as the heat can result in the explosion of the tank as the air will expand with rising temperature. There are some instructions as to how and where you should keep the tank when you are traveling in a car. It should be kept in the car trunk with the valve facing the passengers so that the tank is away from the passengers in case of some causality.

The valve protector should be removed and the o-ring should always be checked before using the tank. Be sure to replace the ring if it is damaged and get a new one if it is missing. If you want to open the valve's knob turn it counterclockwise and should be other way round for locking it.

Scuba diving tank can be said to be one of the most crucial equipment for diving and with the help of the points mentioned earlier you can use it safely.
